Hey guys, I've been wanting to share some exiting news with you! Kevin and I took another leap and relocated to sunny south Florida! (In case you might not know, we moved to North Carolina in October of 2015.) While we were very sad to leave Charlotte behind, this decision just felt right for us. The timing was right and we knew if we didn't pursue Florida now, we would surely regret it later. To say we are happy is an understatement! For some magical reason, from the moment we arrived here, it felt like home. HOME! We pinch ourselves each day and realize just how lucky we are to choose where we live. Loving where you live is, in my opinion, one of the most important facets of life. There's a place for everyone in this world and we are so grateful to have found ours. It wasn't without some serious soul searching though (which heading into the year we both turn 29, was sort of fitting.) It's certainly scary to shake your life up and start over again but it excited us more than anything. If you're thinking about making a big move, I encourage you to go for it!
With that said, here we are, Florida! It's been so much fun nesting and exploring the area. We haven't covered much ground, because our backyard is filled with so many amazing things- the beach, parks, a lively downtown, history, and culture. One thing I've happily discovered about south Florida (as a native New Yorker) is the subtle NY/FL connection. And when I mean subtle, I mean the little things. Like seeing small dogs in strollers like you'd see on the Upper East Side. Or stumbling upon a fully stocked smoked salmon section at all grocery stores at all times. Or deciphering whether someone's accent is Long Island or New Jersey (my accent could be coming out more, who knows!) It feels like home, minus the snow. These familiar things make me smile and put me at ease. Feeling connected to strangers when you're completely new to town has been unexpectedly comforting.
Since getting settled, we've welcomed a new addition to our family. This is something we had been thinking about for a long time but weren't ready to do until now. In the past when we would leave town, Jax would get very anxious- to the point of getting sick! We realized that he needs to be around another animal, to have a buddy. So we adopted a sweet little kitten from a local shelter. We named him Draco and love him so much already. (If you speak Harry Potter, I'm house Slytherin and Kevin is Gryffindor.) We didn't know we had more love to share because we've only ever had Jax for the last 10 years, but we do! And we are over the moon obsessed with little Draco.
Well, that's all for now folks. In the midst of job searching and finding my groove, I hope to get back on here because it feels so good to write and share. But if you don't hear from me, it's safe to say, I'm with my boys. Or on the beach. If you're local to south Florida, do say hello and let me know your favorite restaurant or thing to do here!
