If you're in the market for a facial device... STOP!
And read this review. Here's the deal, we all know that one company has dominated the facial cleansing market for years. I jumped on the Clarisonic bandwagon years ago- maybe eight. And while I had never seen anything like it back then, over the years, I've become rather indifferent to my facial brush. I didn't have terrific skin but it wasn't terrible either. So, I kept on using it, almost blindly. I'm a firm believer in that if you pay good money for something, you should be truly happy with it. So for $149 plus $22 a brush head (changing it out 4 times a year, as directed) owning a Clarisonic is far from cheap.
Now, as I creep closer and closer to 30, I'm in a strange place, skincare wise. I still suffer from occasional breakouts AND I'm also concerned about my skin aging. I do everything I can to keep my skin in tip top shape, like wash my face when I get home, double cleanse to get all my makeup off, and clean everything in my medicine cabinet regularly. I even use anti-aging haircare and rely on these drinks for beautiful skin. Can you tell skincare is one of my top priorities? ;)
The focus on anti-aging went next level when I came across a fancy facial toning device. I wanted one so badly, but at $325, it's no small investment. Do I really need another tool? How much room does my skincare arsenal really need to be taking up in my bathroom? I wasn't loving my Clarisonic, so would another tool in my belt (hah) really be worth it? Or would it leave me feeling so-so?
I gave the whole toning idea a rest until I got a beauty insider coupon from Sephora- I typically buy lots and lots of replacement brush heads with it. Savvy but boring! I can think of a few other ways I'd like to spend money there. After some browsing, I saw the Foreo Luna, a pretty pink face device I'd never seen before. Pricy, I initially thought. (It's $199.) But after some research, I found that the Luna doesn't use any brush heads (it's made of silicone) so, no replacements, it rarely needs to be charged, it weighs next to nothing, and it's incredibly sanitary. Oh, I am forgetting the biggest selling point- the Luna not only cleanses your face, but has an anti-aging, toning mode as well!
Seems like my prayers were being answered. But was it too good to be true? I was willing to take the risk. I was seriously fed up with Clarisonic and their brush head replacement business model. (Good for Clarisonic, bad for our wallets.) I took the plunge and ordered two Lunas- one for me and one for my husband. (They have a sleek, sexy black device for dudes!)
After 2 solid months of regular use, we are very pleased. After we used it for the first time, we both noticed that our skin seemed to soften. Now my makeup looks pretty great, no primer needed! I've always struggled with texture, especially on my cheeks, leaving my blush looking uneven. Not cute. But wow, there has been such an improvement!
The Luna is very gentle- so much so, that I never worry about using it twice per day- something I outlawed with the Clarisonic because it was just too rough. I'd always look like a red lobster after using it. Again, not cute.
With that said, the Foreo Luna is also very powerful- sending 8,000 pulsations per minute to our skin. Not only does it cleanse beautifully, really lifting dirt and makeup from the pores (98-99% of it) but it helps serums and moisturizers really penetrate the skin in anti-aging mode. I spend a little extra time focusing on my laugh lines and I've noticed they are less pronounced- results I couldn't be more pleased with! And mind you, it's only been 2 months. Can't wait to see how they look in 6 months!
More Reasons To Love The Luna
- No obsessive sanitizing. Luna is 35x more hygienic than the competition!
- It's waterproof.
- Only needs a charge after the 450th (!!!) full use.
- It's BPA free.
- No brush heads, ever. (Saving you $88 a year or my husband and I, $176!)
- It's tiny- perfect for travel, saving so much room in your bag.
- There's a device for all skin types (sensitive/normal, combination, ultra sensitive)
- It has a timer, so you know when it's time to move on to the next area of your face.
So, for $200, I am thoroughly impressed with my Luna. My only regret is not getting one sooner. It's like having two devices in one- a cleansing tool AND wrinkle smoother! I never have to worry about replacing a brush head ever again. And the threat of mold or mildew growing on/in the device- null and void! (I still wipe it down and let it air dry.) It's so low maintenance. Need I say any more?
It's definitely time to say bye bye to your Clarisonic and meet the new love of your life, the small but mighty, Foreo Luna!
Do you own any sort of facial cleansing device? Is a facial brush a total indulgence or a beauty standard? Thoughts? Would you ever jump ship? (Clarisonic ship, that is!) I And if you use the Luna, let me know what else you love about it! I am obsessed with, in case you couldn't tell.
