I put butter in my coffee... and some coconut oil, too.
I may be a little slow on the uptake, but... two words: Bulletproof Coffee. Have you heard of this!? I read about it in an article and my friend Spencer mentioned it to me the next day. We promptly experimented.
Basically, it's coffee with coconut oil and grass-fed butter blended in a mixer until smooth and creamy. It's super charged (caffeine+fat, hello!) and provides hours of energy, supposedly. It's popular among Paleo diet followers and it's devotees swear by it- they won't drink anything else! I had to try it...
Verdict? Surprisingly tasty. The butter and oil taste was subtle but more detectable as the coffee cooled. I liked it. It was frothy and rich. If I were to get fancy, (because we all know I can) I'd put some good vanilla extract in it. But truthfully, I don't know how I feel about adding more steps to my AM caffeine routine. Getting out the blender and measuring the butter and oil while half asleep...? Rain check, please!
What's a girl to do? Take the lazy route, of course. I just drizzled a bit of coconut oil in with my regular coffee. In the photo above, you can see it floating all around... it was so pretty. Not paleo-git (paleo+legit- get it? haha..okay, no) but definitely easier, quieter, and satisfying- just as coffee should be.
One final note: I cannot attest to this coffee's bulletproofness but I can tell you it was tasty.
Has anyone else heard of this? I know it sounds awful, but I was really surprised at how yummy it was. Would love to hear your thoughts!
